An interview with Chris Hamp from Tidyco Hose Doctor
Derby-based Tidyco, a supplier of hydraulic and pneumatics to the rail industry for over 40 years; talks to Chris Hamp about his role as a Tidyco Hose Doctor Coordinator.
Hi Chris, how long have you worked for Tidyco?
Hi, I have worked at Tidyco for just over four years.
What was your first role working for the company?
I joined Tidyco as part of an apprenticeship on the sales team, which was a good experience and provided solid foundations regarding client care.
Do you recommend apprenticeship schemes?
I certainly do. Being an apprentice empowered me to gain an officially recognised qualification in sales and customer service at the same time as obtain real working life experience.
Tidyco is very pro-active with its apprenticeship schemes where the company has employed a number of apprentices and University internships throughout the years in roles as diverse as sales, finance, marketing, administration and engineering.
Upon completion of your apprenticeship, what came next?
An opportunity arose for the position of Hose Doctor Coordinator.
Can you explain a little bit about what the Tidyco Hose Doctor Division does?
Firstly, Tidyco is an official Parker Hannifin distributor. Parker are renowned throughout the globe for manufacturing high quality hydraulic and pneumatic products and components.
Through its partnership with Parker, Tidyco provides a Hose Doctor Service.
The majority of customers are construction companies whereby they rely on heavy plant vehicles to complete jobs efficiently, to budget and in a timely manner.
Due to the heavy workloads, hydraulic hoses are prone to bursting, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
All Tidyco Hose Doctor vans are fully equipped with the necessary equipment and parts to manufacture and replace hydraulic hoses whilst on-site.
Through the Parker network, Tidyco Hose Doctor offers full UK coverage.
What are your day-to-day work duties?
I provide back end support, receiving inbound enquiries and allocating relevant engineers within the closest proximity to attend site.
What technology is in place to deliver this service?
I have access to state-of-the art vehicle tracking and live traffic status software.
The technology is impressive, allowing me to manage the fleet effectively whilst also adding substantial carbon footprint benefits by eliminating unnecessary travel.
Tidyco also has a Cyber Essentials secured online cloud platform, allowing customers to manage their own accounts with full works documentation visibility as well as being able to request call outs.
SMS is deployed to keep clients informed of an ETA.
What is your daily motivation?
Ensuring that customers return to full operation as rapidly as possible. I also enjoy working with the engineers and using technology to support me in getting my job done.
